The figure depicted here sees something and begins to shield himself with his arms. What is he looking at, and what is he defending himself from? I don’t explicitly express what that may be, suffice to say he is experiencing a pivotal event and the viewer can see the emotion in his expression.
“He See’s Through” was composed in early 2020, before the Covid-19 global pandemic shutdown and the political unrest in 2020. However, it is striking to me how relevant this image appears in our current political climate. Though “He Sees Through”was not inspired by the riots last month, or the masks we now wear, some may see this piece that way and that’s fine. It truly is in the eye of the beholder.
What I strive to do, is create an open ended story shrouded in a little mystery. That way, the work can have multiple meanings for now and in the future. Who knows the impact it will have a year or 20 years from now, or longer.
