Scott Hutchison’s Eyes Opened is a graphite drawing I completed as a study for Her Eyes Opened. The purpose of doing a study is to flush out the composition, darks, lights and proportional structure without the burden of using color and oil paint. The title of this dual portrait speaks to the question of self and the discovery of who we are. The figure pictured here has just opened her eyes and for this moment has come to an understanding of who she is. The double portrait represents her complex personality and the subtle ebb and flow of her conscious inner mind with her material and physical one.
