38″ x 28″ – Oil Painting on Aluminum
Two figures occupy a confined space; forced to be impossibly intertwined. The double figures depicted in this composition are merging or separating from each other. What you see are multiple figures and moments in time. The translucent effects and the repeating forms are meant to evoke a sense of movement or a memory.
I am incorporating the translucent and transparent effects seen in the majority of my work, but also trying to give the figures a stronger air of believability by putting them in a space. To achieve a more realist effect, it was painted in an indirect process, beginning with a neutral volumetric layer of earth tones. Colors are subsequently applied with in thin glazes. The title is a play on the design of the work. 1) The Curve of her back 2) The Presence is the figure fading into the background. 3) The Space between is the hand emerging from the gap within the two bodies.
